Kisii County Scouts Unleash Youth Potential for Environmental Conservation

Date: June 24, 2023

Kisii County Scouts recently organized their inaugural Youth Scouts Youth Forum, a groundbreaking event aimed at harnessing the energy and potential of young individuals towards environmental conservation. Aligned with the overarching theme of the Kenya Scouts for this year, “Unleashing Youth Potential for Environmental Conservation,” the forum sought to empower young scouts with the knowledge and skills to actively contribute to the preservation of their natural surroundings.

The two-day event kicked off at Kisii University, where scouts from various schools and scout groups gathered to participate in engaging workshops, discussions, and interactive sessions. The forum aimed to raise awareness about the pressing environmental challenges faced by Kisii County and the broader region, emphasizing the crucial role that youth can play in combating these issues.

On the second day of the forum, the scouts took their commitment to environmental conservation beyond the confines of the university campus. The participants, alongside the Kereri Girls High School and Kisii High School Senior Ventures/Mwamba Scouts, embarked on a tree-planting initiative. Their mission was twofold: to restore green spaces and to foster a sense of collective responsibility among the youth towards environmental stewardship.

The enthusiastic group of scouts made their way to Kereri Girls High School and Kisii High School, where they were warmly welcomed by the students and staff. Together, they rolled up their sleeves and dug into the earth, planting saplings that would grow into symbols of hope for a greener future. The atmosphere was filled with camaraderie, teamwork, and a shared vision of preserving the natural beauty of Kisii County.

The tree-planting activity served as a tangible expression of the scouts’ commitment to environmental conservation. It was a reminder that every small action, such as planting a tree, has the potential to make a significant impact in the long run. By involving the Senior Ventures/Mwamba Scout from the partnering schools, the forum aimed to inspire a spirit of mentorship, encouraging younger students to follow in the footsteps of their older counterparts in safeguarding the environment.

The 1st Youth Scouts Youth Forum organized by Kisii County Scouts succeeded not only in bringing together young scouts but also in igniting their passion for environmental conservation. The event provided a platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas on how best to tackle the environmental challenges faced by Kisii County. Through this forum, the scouts affirmed their commitment to safeguarding the environment and unleashed the full potential of Kisii County’s youth in the pursuit of a sustainable future.

As the participants left Kereri Girls High School and Kisii High School, they carried with them a sense of accomplishment and a renewed determination to continue their efforts in environmental conservation. The seeds they planted that day would grow into a lush green reminder of their shared commitment to protecting the natural wonders of Kisii County, leaving a lasting legacy for generations to come.
